North Devon Toddler Groups

Posted · Add Comment
We are pleased to be supporting TWO  new toddlers playgroups in North Devon for adopters and their children.

Barnstaple (Tuesday)   10am – 11.30am
We have been running a confidential parent and toddler group on Tuesday mornings in Barnstaple since June 2016 and have 10 families that attend.
Those that attend have made these comments……

‘the group is a positive space where people ‘get it’.’

‘we can be ourselves and not face awkward questions.’

These sessions provide lots of fun things for you to do with your child/children to help build attachment.  Each week consists of play and activities in a purpose built room that has numerous toys, a climbing frame, dressing up, a baby area, kitchen area and a shop.  Each week there is craft, painting and play dough.  Tea and coffee is available for parents and the last ¼ of an hour is for storytelling and singing when the children get a snack and a drink.  As our facility on a Tuesday is in a church there is sometimes a bible story that brings out a virtue such as kindness or friendship or we will use a story from a book especially designed for adopted children.
The cost is £1.50 for one child and £2.00 for two or more.

The helpers at this group have all adopted and therefore understand developmental trauma and the support that is needed.  It is a secure and confidential group enabling all parents to know that their child/children are safe.

Thursday – South Molton 10am-11.30 am
This group had been running fortnightly but stopped a while ago. We are starting it up again from Thursday 9th March. This group has good facilities with an outdoor play area.  Each session will be similar to the Barnstaple group, it will consist of free play for the children with the last ¼ of an hour for stories and singing with a snack and drink.  Tea and coffee will be available for the parents.  There is no cost but a donation towards the snack would be appreciated.

If you are interested in either groups please call Andrea on 01271 612004 or email abrown@familiesforchildren.org.uk  for an application form, or if you have any questions.
