About the Course
The Foundations for Attachment Programme is a 6 session programme for those parenting children who have relationship difficulties, especially those who have experienced attachment problems, trauma, loss and/or separation early in their life. The course is written by Dr Kim Golding, who has published many books and training materials on supporting children with these difficulties. The course is informed by Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, a model which is becoming increasingly important in working with children who find it difficult and frightening to make connections with others. The course aims to help parents understand the challenges in building emotional connections with these young people, and explore ways to build connections with them, aiming to increase the young person’s attachment security and reduce their levels of shame. The course also looks at ways of supporting young people with their behaviour, whilst building these connections. Finally, the course also aims to explore challenges that can arise when parenting children who find it difficult to trust and build these emotional connections. Each session builds upon material discussed in the previous session aiming to increase knowledge and skills throughout the course of the training, whilst also building a safe environment where each member is valued and encouraged to make sense of their experiences as relates to the course materials.
