Dorset’s Christine Cycles to Success!

Following on from our successful but small-scale sponsored bike ride on the Isle of Wight in 2012, Christine Bown, Admin Support at our office in Dorchester, organized another tough challenge closer to home in Dorset, and encouraged family, friends, colleagues and supporters of Families for Children to take part. There were two choices, one route was a gruelling but scenic 55 miles and the other a very respectable 42 miles. Amazingly, most people opted for the longer route!

So on 12th May 2013, 25 brave cyclists set off from Athelhampton House on the circular route to Corfe Castle, Swanage and back over the Purbeck Range, a route which seemed to include some of the toughest hills in Dorset!

We were spurred on our way by Merv Sharpe, a man who had swum the channel 7 times and lived to tell the tale, so we kept his words of wisdom firmly in our minds as we set off. Our marvellous marshals helped us enormously too, with smiles, food and drinks to help us keep going.

The weather was kind to us until lunchtime, when unfortunately the clouds descended and the picnic spot, specially chosen for its beautiful views, was in the mist and rain. However, we made it back to the finishing line and raised over £2,000 for Families for Children.

Well done to Christine, all the riders, those who donated and the marshalls who ensured everyone had a safe and fun day.
