Families for Children have been providing Adoption Services and Support across the South West for over 80 years. Over the last 21 years they have placed over 500 children with loving and secure adopted families in Devon, Cornwall and Dorset and are supporting around 120 families with their adoption support services. They are therefore excited to announce that in the very near future they will be expanding the Agency to including local offices in Somerset, North Devon and Cornwall. This will make them the largest Voluntary Adoption Agency in the West Country.
As a result of this growth they are employing a further 15 staff across the region. They will be working very closely with Local Authorities within each county to ensure adoption services are reaching those families who need help.
Research published last year by the Department for Education shows that there could be up to 4 million people in England likely to consider adopting at some point in the future. Of these, over 650,000 say they are actively considering adopting imminently, yet throughout the UK there are still 4,000 children waiting to be adopted.
Families for Children CEO – Caroline Davis OBE says – “These are exciting times for us – this expansion comes at a time when we are looking to try and place some of our more difficult children. We are lucky to have such a wealth of local knowledge and expertise within our social work team which has ensured the success of the agency in placing children with adoptive families in the South West. As a specialised agency we are able to offer families a high level of support post adoption and this plays a huge part in our success. Our team has grown significantly over the last 12 months and this is set to continue as we expand. We want potential adopters to be able to connect with us on a personal and local level.”
After successfully placing 48 children last year Families for Children are expecting to increase recruitment of adopters to 70 during 2015/ 2016. Their expansion plan includes strengthening of their existing adoption support services as well as continuing to assess and prepare potential adoptive parents throughout the region.
