Lilly Fahey adopted Kirsten when Kirsten was three years old. She hadn’t had the easiest start to her life. She was born four weeks premature with a serious heart condition, and she still has foetal alcohol syndrome which affects her concentration and behaviour.
And Lilly wasn’t what you might imagine an adoptive parent to be. She was almost 50 when she adopted Kirsten, she hadn’t had children before, she didn’t have a husband or partner and she works full time.
Steve Harris spent some time with the pair of them, and found out there’s no such thing as a typical adoptive parent
