A huge welcome to Jon white who has joined us as Centre Manager and Outdoor Education Lead for Families for Children. He will be the Centre Manager for Lopwell Barn, Lopwell Dam, our new residential centre which a generous benefactor is renting to us; we will take this on from 1st April.
Jon has been managing the barn for the last 7 years and has vast experience of delivering outdoor education activities for young people. As a youth worker he has experience of delivering forest school activities, water activities, building coricles, woodwork skills, wild camps, fire building, caving, climbing and a whole range of other activities.
The barn will be available for our families and any one, to rent out for long weekends (see our website to find out more details or the Lopwell Barn website lopwellbarn.co.uk) so that we can utilise the barn in the week to develop youth focussed one-to-one activities, link with our therapeutic interventions and to develop therapeutic residential opportunities for families to work with our therapists and a parallel fun process to work with children and young people doing outdoor activities. The barn is a great space to chill, relax and engage with the local environment in quiet, beautiful surroundings; make pizzas and cook them over an open wood fire.
Jon will be a great asset to us in our work with young people who have had traumatic experiences. He has been part of a mental health team supporting people with emerging personality disorder so is used to working with challenging issues and engaging effectively with young people, working alongside them to build their confidence, and encourage them to learn new skills.
