Get Active with your family this summer and help raise vital funds for the support of adopted children, many of whom have experienced trauma and neglect in their early years. Join the Miles for Smiles - every step for adoption campaign!

Families for Children had been looking for a campaign to launch in 2019 to raise much needed funds for our Family Strengthening Unit, and vital adoption support work which aids a child to recover from their early years of abuse or neglect.  We also want to let more people know about the work we do and the need for families to come forward to adopt some of the 4500 children waiting to be adopted in the UK.  We were generously approached by local sports professional, Ben Knight who had challenged himself to walk/climb the 5 highest peaks in 5 different countries in Western Europe!  Ben was looking for a charity to support whilst completing the challenge, he has had personal experience of coaching children in foster care, and understands how a family's support, love and nurturing can help a child realise their ambition - Families for Children fitted his beliefs.

Families for Children Miles for Smiles campaign will enable all our friends and families to support Ben's personal challenge - we challenge you and your family to collectively (with others!) walk around the world, 24,901 miles between 7th July and 14th October 2019.  We know we can do it with your help!

Meet our Challenger

Ben Knight

Having worked with children in sport for most of my adult life, first as a tennis coach and then through our holiday camps business High 5 multi-sports and outdoor activities, I have always had lots of contact time with children. I have successfully worked closely with both the child themselves and also their parents or other family members, as it is a team effort to help any young person to achieve their potential within their chosen sport.

I have witnessed first-hand the positive and significant impact that parents can have on the development of their kids if they apply the right amount of support, love and nurture to help the child realise their ambition.

Being passionate about sport myself and also firmly believing that alongside the obvious health benefits achieved from being active, that there are many great life skills that can be learnt and developed by participating in physical activity and competitive sports. I genuinely feel that this is a crucial part of young people’s lives and development and that in this modern age of tablets, smartphones and with childhood obesity levels at an all-time high, we must now more than ever ensure that we make sport and physical activity a top priority for all young people.

Please join us on our Miles for Smiles challenge and help us walk around the world to make a difference to children’s lives.
