Remember us in your will

Your Will is something very precious.  It is your way of ensuring that your beliefs, hopes and love live on. If you decide to remember Families for Children in you Will not only will your gift help us to find settled and caring families for vulnerable children, but it can enable us to work with each child to realise their true worth as loved and special individuals who can contribute to society.

Joy and Nic adopted Rachel, who has hydrocephalus (water on the brain) when she was 16 months old. Joy and Nic lived in Cornwall with their birth son Samuel when they made the decision to adopt.

Rachel’s condition was caused by her birth mother’s drug and alcohol abuse.  The decision to remove her from her mother was made before she was born and she was in foster care until she was placed, through Families for Children, with Joy and Nic.

The family have since also adopted Sarah who has the same condition.

Leaving us a gift will enable Families for Children to continue supporting our families and ensure children such as Rachel and Sarah have the love and security in a family they deserve. Our gift to you in return will be to ensure our work remains successful and that support is available for our families for as long as it they need it.

The importance of making a will

A Will is an opportunity to do something amazing and lasting!  It is also the only way to make sure that your money, assets and belongings are distributed in the way that you want.

About two thirds of the population still fail to make a Will. Charitable legacies are not currently subject to inheritance tax and so any gift you leave to Families for Children will be tax-free.

Leaving a gift to us may also bring the amount of your estate below the inheritance tax threshold meaning more of your money will go to the causes you wish to support.

How to remember us in your will

It is easy to leave a gift to Families for Children in a new or existing Will. It is simple and inexpensive to have a Will drafted by a Solicitor.  A Will does not just contain details of who your assets should go to but can also include your funeral arrangements.

If you have already made a Will, you will need to make an amendment.  This is simple to arrange through a solicitor and is known as a codicil.

Your gift to us could be:

  • A Residuary Legacy – the remainder of your estate or a percentage of your estate after all other gifts have been deducted.  This also has the benefit of keeping pace with inflation.
  • A Pecuniary Legacy – the gift of a specified amount.  Remember, time and inflation can reduce its value.
  • A Specific Legacy -the gift of a specific item.
